The pair have linked up for the last two games and, while neither have scored, Simpson is hugely encouraged by the way the partnership is shaping up.

And the Town boss believes 14-goal hitman Hibbert - who hasn't scored in his last seven outings - and Cureton, who is waiting for his first Town goal, will soon be hitting the net regularly in tandem.

"I'm very encouraged from what I've seen of them," said Simpson.

"I think they both need a goal. Dave is getting a bit frustrated but I've said to him if he keeps doing a job for the team, I haven't got any complaints at all.

"Dave was unlucky not to get one on Saturday and Jamie could have had a hat-trick on another day.

"But his movement and the positions he takes up are that of a proper goalscorer."

Meanwhile, Town are breathing a sigh of relief after initial fears that Hibbert may have suffered a broken arm proved unfounded.

The leading scorer sustained an arm injury after an hour of Saturday's 1-0 defeat of Bournemouth, which initially appeared would end his involvement in the game.

But he battled through to the final whistle and Simpson today revealed there are no long term concerns over the problem.

"When Dave first went down, there were signs of a break," added the Town boss.

"But he wanted to carry on he felt much better by Sunday night.

"He did non-contact training yesterday but should be back in full training today."

  • Town's reserve game at Sheffield United tomorrow has been moved from Sheffield FC to Bramall Lane and will now kick off at 2pm.
