A multi-million development to virtually double the size of a Telford supermarket is to be opened on Monday. Work began in March to revamp the Tesco store at Wrekin Retail Park in Wellington. The extension was expected to create around 20 jobs.
A mezzanine level has been created at the supermarket with travelators put in place. The shelves on the new floor are already being fitted out with clothing and electrical goods, including televisions, DVD players and CDs and DVDs. A cafe will be opening on the mezzanine and there will also be two disabled toilets.
Tesco has already relocated and re-opened its in-store pharmacy and created a new service desk for customers. It will be taking down its temporary store, which closes on Sunday, in a move which will also free up more parking spaces.
Re-fit manager Gemma Mercer said today: "We are opening the mezzanine on Monday at 8am. We have got a bit of work to do on the car park and getting the temporary store down."
She said there had been a slight delay in getting the extension open.
Miss Mercer said they had listened to customers to find out what they wanted. She said: "There has been quite a lot of excitement in store with customers."
