Gallery: Stokesay Castle hosts medieval weekend with mock War of the Roses
The War of the Roses was reignited at a mock battle held at a castle.

Dozens of medieval re-enactors brought the house and grounds at Stokesay Castle, near Craven Arms, to life, staging a mock battle and demonstrating the skills of the medieval period.

Julie Hall-Brett, site manager, said: "It was amazing, we had nearly 500 visitors. It was a very busy day. It was fascinating and there was something for the whole family, people of all ages.
"We had people doing medieval 'come dine with me' and medieval fashion parades, knights put on their armour and talked about it, we had longbow archery displays and fighting in the arena which was absolutely brilliant.
"We've also had travelling musical performers who use ancient musical instruments and do old plays. It has been fantastic, there has been a wonderful atmosphere."
The event was held while the next-door Church of St John the Baptist hosted Stokesay's Flower Festival throughout the bank holiday weekend.
The theme for this year's festival was children's bible stories, with arrangers illustrating subjects from the Old Testament including Jonah and the Whale and Daniel in the Lion's Den.
New Testament stories range from the nativity of Jesus to the crucifixion and resurrection. There was also refreshments with home-made sandwiches, sausage rolls and freshly baked cakes as well as a bookstall with plants and bric-a-brac.
This year a share of profits from donations will go to Smile Train UK, a charity which treats children with cleft palates in more than 85 countries in the world.
