Presenter Yvette Fielding and her crew were at the site yesterday for an evening's filming as they sought to find any spirits lurking in the building's historic cells.

It is not the first time the team has visited the prison, having taken part in previous paranormal evenings.

Karl Beattie, producer of the show and Yvette Fielding's husband, said that the Dana was the perfect venue for the show.

He said: "This is one of the paranormal hot-spots in the UK really.

"We have known about it for a long time and it is thanks to Joel Campbell who is running the prison, who has allowed us to come here.

"The history here is absolutely fantastic and we just had to come here. I think it is the biggest place we have ever been to and we are really excited about it."

Yvette said that on the previous visits to the prison they had encountered a number of unexplained events, saying the building "has the most amazing atmosphere".

She said: "Up in A Wing, we had everyone accounted for and there was lots of sighing and moaning, and the whistling was quite prevalent.

"I would whistle and then the whistling would come back.

"There was a lot of banging too and you could sense the vibrations under your feet. We would ask question like "are you happy, one knock for yes, two for no", and we had 20 or 30 people here who could all feel it under their feet which was quite extraordinary – everyone was like 'wow'.

"In such a great massive place like this it has got so much emotion.

"The rage, you can imagine, so much anger and so much rage, and especially the people that were here and were hanged."

Yvette said she was hopeful that they would be able find something during their investigations and even said she had taken an unusual precaution by bringing a crucifix necklace.

The footage will be used for at least two shows and will be expected to air later this year.
