TV funnyman Lee Evans has helped set a new record at Ludlow Assembly Rooms - after 600 tickets for two performances at the venue sold out in just 20 minutes.

Fans of the comedian queued outside the Assembly Rooms on Tuesday morning to snap up tickets for two shows on May 14 and 15 as a warm-up for his national Roadrunner tour this autumn, which includes 50 dates at some of Britain's biggest venues including London's O2 Arena and the NIA in Birmingham.

Paula Redway, director at Ludlow Assembly Rooms, said: "We knew the tickets would go fast, but this was incredible.

"We have become a popular venue for comedians who are warming up for big stadium appearances, as our small, intimate auditorium is perfect for trying out new material and gauging audience reaction."
