All I want for Xmas is victory

Is this it? Has the time come? Surely our comfortable 3-0 win over the Heffers on Saturday will be the catalyst for our charge up the table and march into the play-offs, writes our Shrews Blogger David Craig.

Well, we'll just have to see what 2007 brings, but I have an inkling that we could, at last, be clicking into gear.

It must be said that the Heffers didnt exactly help themselves, trust me, they were rubbish, but as well as the positives of the three goals, and three points, a number of other plus points emerged.

Firstly, the Cookie monster grabbed a classy brace, and I just hope that Market Drayton's finest can keep himself clear of his endless injury problems and produce the form he's capable of. Secondly, was the emergence of left winger Danny Thomas.

Before Saturday, Mr Thomas was a bit of an unknown specimen for all Salopians, but jeez, what a little bundle of joy he is.

He does things that have seemed almost impossible for a division four player to produce. He crosses the ball accurately! He passes the ball to feet! He even performs tricks!!! I like him. Sign him up Gary. He'll no doubt now transform into a pile of tripe and never be heard of again.

Anyhow, a nice warm feeling to have another home win, and surely another one is around the corner, as we entertain the bees of Barnet this Friday night.

If you can't beat teams such as Barnet at home, then you should be banned from gaining promotion. Victory is essential. And that victory will set us up nicely for the biggie on the 26th. You can't beat the Christmas football fixtures.

They're very special and whoever decided that each team should play about fifty matches in the space of a week, should be given a big sloppy kiss under the mistletoe. And I'd even go a bit further for whoever arranged the schedules so that we'd be away at W*lsall on Boxing Day.

As a Salop fan, there aren't that many away fixtures that you look forward to for even a day, let alone a week, but for me personally,Ii do enjoy a trip to see the mighty Shrews take on the 'Gyppos in a biscuit tin'.

I fully appreciate that there's a very good chance we could end up with a defeat at the biscuit tin when you consider our fairly mediocre away form and Walsall's impressive home form, but roared on by an expected travelling support of 2,000, it would be blooming marvellous if we could snatch an unlikely victory.

If we do end up on the losing side, then at least I can take some enjoyment from picking out some of the choice of attire of the home fans, and of course, singing the aforementioned 'Gyppos in a biscuit tin' song, which will no doubt be wheeled out at least a hundred times in the ninety minutes.

May I wish you all a Merry Xmas, and if you do support any teams other than Salop, then I hope you all have a truly miserable festive period, watching your favourites getting thrashed.
