Pundits slam Wales as 'not good enough' after Poland thumping
Wales Women are not good enough to compete with top sides, according to former international Kath Morgan - as their winless streak extended to eleven games following a defeat to Poland.
Having been beaten 2-1 at home to Australia in a friendly - Rhian Wilkinson's side, who qualified for the most recent European Championships, lost their seventh game in a row, the nation's longest losing streak since the mid 1990s.
Newtown's Carrie Jones was on the scoresheet in the 5-2 defeat to the 26th ranked side in the world.
And BBC Radio Cymru pundit Morgan, who was the first international to reach 50 caps, gave a scathing assessment of the performance and where the women's team is at currently.
She said: "We aren't fit enough, we aren't strong enough, we aren't good enough in one on one situations.
"There's a lot of defensive work to be done. So, I say the same sentence time and time again, this is where we are and we have to deal with that."
Former striker Helen Ward was also impressed by what she saw - but had a more optimistic outlook.
She added: "I'm really torn. In isolation, if you look at the performance and the team Rhian Wilkinson put out, and the experience and quality they were up against you'd probably say there's a lot to take out of it.
"But when you look at the overall picture, the number of games we've gone without a win and the number of games we've lost in a row, that's really difficult to take and something that Rhian Wilkinson will really have to look at.
"Set pieces has been a real point of failure for Wales in recent months and games, they keep conceding and we can't afford to do that.
"She'll have to pick the bones out of this, as to why these things keep happening because it is individual moments and individual mistakes that are costing Wales at the moment.
"It's a whole team thing and they really need to address why we're conceding so many goals and why we can't put enough in at the other end."
Head coach Wilkinson was unhappy with her side's display - and says she does not want her side to 'lose their identity', amid a terrible wun.
She said: "I don't think that's who we are as a team and as a country.
"We have off days, every team has off days. But on those off days, we cannot lose our identity like that.
"It's not even fun to watch, it's not our brand of football.
"These women give everything for Wales, but I am not proud of that performance."
