'We got a bit lucky': Newtown boss Nathan Leonard on latest win as Robins fire in four against Denbigh

Nathan Leonard believes his side got away with it - as they almost squandered an early 3-0 lead against Denbigh Town before coming out on top in a six goal thriller.

The Robins raced out of the traps in their home clash against the North Wales side - as they took a 3-0 lead in the game inside the first 16 minutes.

First Jamie Hyne set up veteran striker Greg Draper - before Hyne went from provider to scorer as they went 2-0 up inside nine minutes.

Aiden McCann then got in on the act to make it 3-0 and the Robins were cruising.

But second half goals from Alfie Vaughan and Bobby Beaumont-Broadhead made it a nervy finish before Draper wrapped it up late on with his second.

Despite the positives of the win - Leonard insists his side got away with it at the end.

He said: "We were good for the first 25 minutes, scored great goals and then apart from a few phases they were the better team.

"We spoke at half time about how we were asking for trouble, giving the ball away and you do play with different mindset at 3-0, it is difficult.

"But credit to Denbigh, they stuck at it and stayed in there and you can see why they are fifth in the league.

"In the end it was a gat finish by Greg to finish it off - but we are disappointed with how it played out.

"We need to make better decisions and have a bit more trust to go and finish the game 3-0 or 4-0, because when you give teams chances they will punish you.

"We are a good side and we got a bit lucky in a way to get away with a win."
