Kenny Jackett concerned at poor display

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett said he was concerned at the insipid performance produced by his team as Bristol City deserved won at Ashton Gate.

After a convincing victory on Saturday Wolves yet again failed to follow that up as their horribly inconsistent results continued.

Jackett, who was angry that Wolves weren't awarded an injury-time penalty for a challenge on Matt Doherty, admitted it is one step forward and one step back for his team at the moment.

"I didn't think in either half we really got going," the Wolves boss said after Jonathan Kodjia's first-half goal settled a 1-0 victory for the Robins.

"We're very disappointed. In terms of performance we didn't trouble their goalkeeper.

"I felt we didn't have our usual energy tonight and while we huffed and puffed we didn't get going.

"It left us bereft of efforts at goal. It did look like a penalty but we didn't get it. I was really surprised the referee didn't give it."

Star striker Benik Afobe was withdrawn at half time as Jackett shook things up and went for a 3-5-2 formation with Grant Holt and Adam Le Fondre up front.

Wolves were arguably even worse in the second half and the head coach admitted he was disappointed with his team.

"We tried to break them down with a second forward but it didn't change the pattern of the game," he said.

"I wanted to get Le Fondre and Holt a go as a pair and see if they could effect things for me going forward.

"It is concerning and it was a flat performance. For a very good travelling away support we didn't do enough and didn't look creative enough.

"It's one step forward and one step back at the moment.

"In either system we couldn't get in behind them or take people on. I didn't think we passed the ball well enough.

"We certainly could have had a point with the late decision, but we didn't work their goalkeeper.

"It's not like us. In terms of creating chances we were very limited.

"It didn't look like we were particularly potent in either half. We tried to match their formation, played 3-5-2, and tried to get a front two that would get some shots in.

"We've got enough in the squad to fix it and we have an opportunity to put that right on Saturday against Burnley."
