The winger, who has completed a three-month loan from Derby County, is poised to clinch a full transfer for a bargain fee in the region of £200,000.

The news will delight Wolves fans who have taken to the skilful winger in a big way since he arrived in early November.

And head coach Kenny Jackett admits the move for a permanent transfer is a reflection of the faith he has in the 22-year-old prospect improving still further.

Jackett said: "We haven't quite agreed everything yet but we are very hopeful, very optimistic, that we will take him on a permanent deal now rather than extend his loan.

"That reflects my confidence in him and what he has done since he has been with us. We think he is a player with a bright future with a lot of potential for a 22-year-old.

"We've been in constant touch with Derby who have their own plans to bring in their own players to change their squad around.

"They have got some outstanding young players and that is to our advantage in terms of our plans for Michael."

Jacobs' arrival follows the departure of defender Roger Johnson to Premier League West Ham.

Johnson has joined the Hammers until the end of the season.
