Kenny Jackett to continue rotating Wolves squad

Four-goal top scorer Griffiths was the fall guy as Wolves switched to a 4-5-1 formation and lost 1-0 to the Saddlers on Tuesday night – their first defeat of the season.

Griffiths kept his ever-present league record by coming off the bench – fans had started chanting for him to come on – to spearhead a switch to 4-2-3-1 late on.

But he couldn't change things as Wolves failed to create any meaningful chances in the second half, despite all three main strikers being on the pitch with Kevin Doyle and Bjorn Sigurdarson alongside Griffiths.

"Substitutes have featured quite prominently for us and the fresh energy has helped us against perhaps jaded defenders after an hour," said Jackett.

"So it's something we'll continue to do and it's something I've spoken to the players about a lot.

"So far this season I've been very pleased with Griffiths, Sigurdarson and Doyle.

"Generally I've picked two out of those three with one coming off the bench and you need that strength, with perhaps Jake Cassidy and a Liam McAlinden, to be a good club and a good side."

Jackett added: "Our substitutes can make a difference – we'll have a bigger and a deeper squad than other sides this season.

"We want to be going into the winter months as strong as we can, and if we've got three forwards for two positions, they're three good players and they'll all contribute."

Griffiths was tired after returning from international duty last week but is fine now.

"He was a little jaded after the travelling and he missed last Thursday's training with a slight groin strain he picked up but he's fine," said Jackett.

"Sometimes you get back at 5am on a Wednesday morning and then you've got three games in eight days.

"But we should be strong enough to cope with that and at present we are.

"I'd still rather him be involved because it reflects well for the club."
