Aaron McCarey: Wolves goalies above this level
Aaron McCarey today insisted Wolves' goalkeeping department is as strong as anything that the Championship has to offer.
And the 21-year-old shot-stopper reckons his experiences over the last few months have made him a potential contributor.
McCarey can stake his claim on the club's tour of Scotland this week as he will be sharing keeping duties with Carl Ikeme for the two friendlies.
Dorus De Vries has joined Nottingham Forest and Wayne Hennessey will not be risked in action for at least three weeks.
McCarey said: "It's very good and healthy competition and I'm not sure there are many clubs even at a higher level that have the quality of goalkeepers that Wolves have had.
"It can only help as we're all pushing each other every day in training to make each other better."
The Republic of Ireland Ireland under-21 international's appetite for the big time has been whetted.
It comes after his call-up to the full Ireland squad for last month's 2-0 friendly defeat against Spain in New York, which came on the back of 14 games at Walsall over two loan spells last season.
He said: "We went out to New York for five days which was a great learning curve for me and a great experience, something I will remember for a long time.
"It was a full-strength Ireland squad and the players ran Spain very close in the game and were unlucky not to get a draw. Working with that quality of player was a really good experience.
"Last year was really good experience at Walsall so, if I'm called on this season, I feel I have got that in the locker. I would be confident I could do the job.
"I know what the league is about – it's a tough league and there are some good players about. But, hopefully, it's going to be a successful one for us."
