Mick calls for fortress Molineux

Mick McCarthy today called on Wolves fans to turn Molineux into a cauldron of hostility between now and the end of the Premier League season.

Fulham are at Molineux today for a clash which sees the return of Steve Sidwell for the first time since he broke Adlene Guedioura's leg in September and snubbed Wolves in January.

He will be joined by Danny Murphy, who named Wolves as one of three teams with Stoke and Blackburn as 'too pumped up' by their managers.

Boss McCarthy holds no grudges against either player — but wants the gold and black masses to make it as noisy and difficult as possible for Fulham, Albion and Blackburn in the final three home games as he seeks to use every advantage he can in the race for survival.

The Black Country derby is on May 8 while relegation-threatened Rovers are at Molineux on the final day of the season two weeks later.

McCarthy said: "I'd like our fans to turn against all of them — every single one of them, and when Blackburn come here.

"And, of course, I don't need to tell them to turn against West Brom do I?

"Our fans are brilliant and their support has been fabulous this season.

"But I want them to be hostile to the opposition because it makes it difficult for the visiting team to play — not just because someone is turning up here who has had a history or a tackle that has broken someone's leg."

The Wolves boss added: "The other results have been good for us and for a team bottom of the league to have such brazen, bare-faced confidence that we can stay in the league just shows you how close it is."

McCarthy sayd Wolves must stay tight at the back if they are to stay up.

"We want to win games but it is also important to avoid defeat where possible because every point is going to be important and, you never know, it might just be the one that keeps you in the league," he said.

"We want to attack but there is no point in doing that if you leave the back door open at the other end."
