Suffering their second defeat of the JD Cymru Premier season, Saints are three points off table-topping Connah’s Quay Nomads – who drew 0-0 at Penybont.

Chris Seargeant, the club’s head of coaching, took caretaker charge for the first time following the departures of both Ruscoe and assistant Steve Evans.

He had already seen Paul Harrison produce a good save to deny Corey Shephard by the time the same player gave the hosts an 18th-minute lead, drilling a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

Within six minutes of the restart, the visitors were level as defender Blaine Hudson powered in a header off the bar, from Adrian Cieslewicz’s corner.

But Haverfordwest, who handed a home debut to Wales international defender Jazz Richards, restored the advantage by grabbing what proved to be the winner in the 73rd minute, as Cameron Keetch fired a low shot past Harrison.

Saints will hope to return to winning ways when they host basement boys Cefn Druids at Park Hall tomorrow night (7.45pm).
