Family rivalry in the Faroes for TNS ace

The New Saints winger Adrian Cieslewicz is relishing some family rivalry in tomorrow's Champions League first round qualifier at Torshavn.

Cieslewicz played a key role last season as the Saints landed a Welsh domestic treble – and wants to follow up with European success.

However, in his way is elder brother and striker Lukasz – who will line up for the Faroe Islanders.

The brothers, who were born in Poland but grew up in the Faroes, played alongside each other last summer for Torshavn in the Europa League when they lost 3-2 to Linfield.

While 27-year-old Lukasz remains, the younger Cieslewicz has moved on and, by a quirk of fate, the TNS wing wizard takes on his brother tomorrow night.

After this week's first leg tie at Torshavn's 5,000-capacity Gundadalur Stadium, it's back to Park Hall the following Tuesday. The winners meet Hungarian side Videoton FC in the second qualifying round.

And TNS' Cieslewicz is delighted with the sibling rivalry, saying: "I've never played against my brother previously, so I was excited about that

"We obviously played together last year. It will be interesting to come face to face in the Champions League, the biggest competition in Europe.

"Obviously I want the best for my brother, but unfortunately one of us is going to be knocked out.

"It's a big dilemma for my family now – my mum says she doesn't even want to come to the game because she doesn't know who to cheer."

The former Wrexham forward played for Torshavn last season, after leaving Kidderminster Harriers, and can't wait to revisit his old haunt.

He added: "I spent eight years over there before I moved to Britain, so I've got good memories."
