Take a look here at a selection of encounters which are more than worth a quick glance for Salopians...

Shrewsbury Town 3 Wolves 1 (October 8, 1991 - League Cup)

The most recent game on this list - Town fans might remember this win over Wolves mainly because of their response to the 6-1 defeat at Molineux which preceded it just two weeks before.

Having been beaten so heavily by Wolves in the fist leg, Salop would need a miraculous winning margin to secure passage into the third round of the competition, one which they ultimately would not achieve - but gave a fair try.

Kevin Summerfield bagged one, following on from his sole effort in the first leg, whilst Neil Lyne scored a brace to stun the visitors that day.

Summerfield, who registered more than 150 appearances for Salop owned the envious statistic of scoring in every one of his side's League Cup outings that season - although the Shrews did only feature in four fixtures given their 7-4 aggregate defeat to their local rivals.

Steve Bull was mid-way through cementing himself as a Wolves legend when the two sides met.

Wolves 0 Shrewsbury Town 1 (April 6, 1985 - Division 2)

Shrewsbury's next closest victory over their nearby neighbours came back in the old second division in 1985, with just a single goal separating the sides.

In fact, it was an own goal which deemed to be the decider in the encounter - in a season which Wolves fans would prefer to forget.

Finishing bottom of the league that year, Wolves managed just 33 points, conceding a league-high 79 goals in a campaign which resulting in just eight wins.

Salop meanwhile, finished eighth - 19 points behind first-placed Oxford.

Shrewsbury Town 2 Wolves 1 (December 26, 1984 - Division 2)

A memorable Boxing Day clash to say the least - in a game which proved the ideal Christmas present for Salopians.

Colin Robinson got things going at the Gay Meadow that day with his strike, before Alan Ainscow levelled for the visitors before the hour mark.

Shrewsbury Town secured their fifth straight win off a Bernard McNally strike following a poor defensive clearance from a Ross Maclaren free-kick.

A similar result this time around would undoubtedly thrill plenty of Shrews fans, especially given Wolves' recent successes.

Wolves 2 Shrewsbury Town 2 (April 4, 1983 - Division 2)

Chic Bates was the Salop hero in 1983 after his brace managed to earn a draw at Molineux in 1983.

In a season which saw Wolves promoted from the old division two, Shrewsbury Town put in a valiant effort to rescue a draw having been down 2-1 at half time.

Notching his sixth and seventh goals of the season for Salop, Bates' double ensured that the visitors earned some sort of respect after their toothless showing at the Meadow against Wolves in a dreary December encounter.

Wolves finished second that season behind QPR. Shrewsbury meanwhile managed a respectable ninth placed finish.

Wolves 1 Shrewsbury Town 1 (March 10 1979 - FA Cup)

An incredible late show in the FA Cup sixth round saw third division minnows Shrewsbury Town force a replay against then-first division Wolves back in 1979.

It was the first time the sides had met in more than 20 years, and the game didn't disappoint.

Shrewsbury, then managed by player-manager Graham Turner, overcame Man City to set up the lucrative fixture against Wolves that season, and in front of a crowd of more than 40,000 – 16,000 of which were Salopians, forced a draw thanks to a late Ian Atkins penalty.

Billy Rafferty's brilliant half-volley looked to have sealed Wolves' place in the semi-finals, before Atkins fired his penalty home - although the replay was much less even, with Wolves winning 3-1 a few days later.

It was a season to remember for Salop, who secured promotion to the second division as champions, losing just six games through their league campaign.
