Junior Brown: Shrewsbury Town can do better than this
Shrewsbury goal hero Junior Brown can't wait to see what Town can achieve in League One after admitting they have underperformed this season.
The popular full-back enhanced his reputation with Shrews fans as his powerful header crashed into the Southend net during Saturday's 1-0 win.
The victory left Town all-but safe in their quest for League One survival ahead of the final weekend of the season.
And Brown, who played his 50th game of the season in the Shrimpers win – the most for Town this term – says that while staying up is admirable, Paul Hurst's side can aim higher.
"We've made it difficult for ourselves," said the left-back, who also has five goals this term. "The season's not gone how we wanted and we've sort of stumbled at times but realistically we've got ourselves there.
"It's a massive achievement to keep us in the league and maybe you look at it and say 'yes we've done well to stay up', but it's not where we want to be.
"We want to kick on, we want to be up there and we want to be challenging.
"There's work to be done, we go to Oxford and get a result, rest up, get a good pre-season under our belts and look to kick on."
Brown, who will be entering his third campaign in blue and amber next season, is intrigued to see how Hurst and assistant Chris Doig conduct their first summer transfer market.
And while changes are a given, he maintains that the current group are good enough to have offered more and can still play a big part next year.
He added: "It's going to be interesting times. The new staff are going to want to put their own stamp on things, making new additions and changes. We'll just relax and rest up and get ready to enjoy the rollercoaster of pre-season.
"I don't even think it's necessarily about new players. I think the players we've got here and good enough but at times we've not shown what we're capable of.
"It's something that we're disappointed in but we can get a good pre-season in and build on things."
