Shrewsbury Town linked to James Wilson and Kane Smith
Shrewsbury Town have taken one of the hottest properties in non-league football on trial – and are understood to be in talks with free agent James Wilson.
Sources in the south claim attacking right-back Kane Smith, who plays for Hitchin Town, is at the Greenhous Meadow after impressing Premier League scouts last season.
Crystal Palace and West Brom took the teenage sensation on trial last term and Ipswich also wanted to take a look at him.
The 19-year-old earned rave reviews playing in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier League.
Palace played the one-time Luton Town academy scholar in two development games, while the Baggies had Smith in training.
Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton and Bristol City also made enquiries.
Kane, who is under contract so would command a fee, has made 69 appearances for Hitchin, netting six goals after joining them from Biggleswade Town in December 2014.
Initially signed as a midfielder, Smith made the right-back position his own.
Town currently have no specialist right-back after Jack Grimmer returned to Fulham in May, while Matt Tootle has joined Notts County and Jermaine Grandison was released.
Meanwhile, the Shropshire Star understands Wilson is in talks with Town as well as interesting Rochdale and League Two side Leyton Orient after being released from Oldham.
The 27-year-old , who has been capped once by Wales, is quick and is a right-footed centre-back but often plays on the left.
He's available on a free after exactly 100 League appearances for the Latics, including 43 last season. He was part of a defence that kept 10 clean sheets in the final 18 games.
Joining the Latics in January 2014, he made 31 League appearances from 2006 for Bristol City and won a League Two winner's medal on loan at Brentford in 2008-09.
The Shropshire Star contacted Town but the club was unable to comment.
