Shrewsbury Town may move on as trio hesitate over contracts
Shrewsbury Town are prepared to move on from the three players yet to sign new contracts.
Chief executive Brian Caldwell has revealed the agents of captain Nathaniel Knight-Percival and James Wesolowski have responded to the new terms from the club with 'counter offers'.
The club have not heard anything from the other soon-to-be out-of-contract player, keeper Mark Halstead.
But Caldwell hinted he is happy for those who haven't reached agreement to find new clubs if they can secure better deals elsewhere.
"There are a few other offers out there, such as James Wesolowski and Natty. But their agents have been in touch with counter offers to our offers and we haven't heard anything from Mark Halstead as yet," Caldwell told www.shrewsburytown.com.
"If the players don't want to be here, they don't want to be here.
"I'm a great believer in 'let's get the next one' if they don't. That's not to say any of them are like that, but players have their own minds to make up. If they think they can go elsewhere and get better, then they should go.
"We'll monitor this. Micky (Mellon, manager) is now back from holiday and is in constant touch."
Town have signed two centre-backs in Olly Lancashire and Ryan McGivern and promoted Callum Grogan, but released Zak Whitbread and Jermaine Grandison, while Jack Hendry returned to Wigan.
The loss of Knight-Percival would be a surprise as the skipper emerged as a player of the year contender.
Caldwell says there is a cut-off date for offers made, adding: "My understanding is it's a month from the offer (was made) so it's there until that time and until the agent gets back in touch with them as well."
Shrewsbury Town Ladies are holding trials on July 5 at Shrewsbury College (7pm). Details on 07983 417943 or email sean_evans88@yahoo.co.uk
