The 20-year-old midfield schemer has been in fantastic form this season and impressed fans and pundits up and down the county, with his accurate passing and ability to find space.

That form has lead to fans becoming concerned Town might be tempted by a big-money offer if a bid comes in during the January transfer window.

But Mellon is determined Woods, who has been affectionately nicknamed the 'Ginger Pirlo' by fans, is staying at the Greenhous Meadow.

The Town boss said: "We are a club that do not want to lose our best players. We want to move forward and we want to progress.

"If you want to do that then things are simple – you don't sell your best players.

"Ryan is contracted, so anything that may happen we will be in control of. Ryan Woods is ours for another couple of years.

"But there are a number of really talented players at the club and I always tell people they are all absolutely focused on getting the job done this year.

"They will not lose that focus and they will stay on task to make sure we can keep moving forward."

Meanwhile, the Shrews chief was also full of praise for top scorer James Collins, who netted his ninth and 10th goals of the season so far in the 3-2 defeat at Exeter.

Mellon said: "James has been absolutely fantastic. He has scored two goals at Exeter and ended up on the losing side.

"After their final whistle, there was nobody more disappointed in the dressing room than him."
