Telford 0 Harrogate 4 - Report and pictures

Telford's shiny new kit failed to gloss over a poor performance that saw them ship four goals at home to stay rock bottom of the league.

Manager Rob Smith told his side were in a relegation battle before the game and, on today's showing, needs to make a lot of changes if his side has any chance of staying up.

Harrogate simply had too much going forward for their National League North counterparts to deal with and deserved the comfortable win.

Two goals for Brendon Daniels and strikes from Jordan Thewlis and Dominic Knowles sealed an emphatic victory, as both sides ended the game with 10 men.

Knowles found himself in space soon after that, too, only to see his effort hit straight at goalkeeper James Montgomery.

David Hibbert went close for Telford early on, but his header from a Izak Reid's cross went over the bar.

The deadlock was broken on 13 minutes when Joe Colbeck, the best player on the pitch, rolled the ball into the path of Daniels to rifle the ball home from 20 yards.

Again Harrogate hit Telford on the break when Knowles played a lovely ball out wide to Colbeck who was brought down by Curtis Tilt, who was given a yellow card. The free kick sailed wide.

Telford's best chance came when Reid controlled the ball well and played in Mark Lees. His effort was excellently cleared to safety by Harrogate's David McGurk.

Cecil Nyoni played a lovely ball into space for Colbeck, but his cross to Daniels at the far post was well blocked.

Daniels went close with a stinging free kick, but was denied by a fingertip save from Montgomery.

Telford's Lucas Dawson played a lovely one-two with Sean Clancy, but his long range effort was comfortably saved.

Another cracking free kick followed from Daniels. Again, it was brilliantly saved by man-of-the-match Montgomery.

On 39 minutes, Colbeck again found space down the right. This time his cross was too close to Montgomery.

Tilt gave away a free kick on the edge and this time it was Knowles who was unlucky not to score with a free kick, which curled just wide of the left hand post.

A few minutes later Knowles danced and jigged his way past two defenders but was swamped in the box. The ball broke to Paul Clayton, whose shot went just wide.

Clancy was brought down at the other end and McGurk was given his first yellow card. Reid went for glory from the free kick, but the goalkeeper watched it fly over the bar.

The killer blow came minutes before half time when some more great work down the right by Colbeck found Daniels at the back post to bundle the ball home.

Telford's challenge grew early in the second-half when Dawson was given his marching for a two-footed lunge. The resulting free kick was well saved by Montgomery.

McGurk was then sent off for a second yellow card to even things up, but Reid's free kick curled just over the bar.

A nice back heel from Knowles on 70 minutes sent substitute Lloyd Kerry through on goal but his shot was blocked.

Some nice saw the ball rolled into the path of Telford substitute Josh Brizzell. His shot nearly hit the roof of the stand from 25 yards out.

Brizzell made up for it soon after with a great goal line clearance, after a lob from Knowles had beaten the goalkeeper.

Harrogate's third came on 84 minutes when Tom Platt cut the ball back to substitute Jordan Thewils, who slid in to score.

The final nail in the coffin came when Graham Hutchison leant too heavily on Platt and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Knowles, as cool as you like, sent Montgomery the wrong way to make it four.
