AFC Telford United have swooped to sign Everton youngster Ben McLaughlin on a month's youth loan to aid their Conference Premier fight for survival.

The right-back arrives as the replacement for Ryan Higgins, after the non-contract defender joined league rivals Chester on a permanent deal.

The 19-year-old, who signed for the Toffees from Dundalk in his homeland two years ago, is the grandson of former Shrewsbury Town striker Jimmy McLaughlin.

Promising full-back Kyle Dixon was also borrowed from League One side Notts County last week, just as Kyle Brownhill was recalled from his loan by Hyde United.

Dixon and former Bradford Park Avenue midfielder Jack Rea were new manager Steve Kittrick's first signings, but both are cup-tied for Saturday's trip to Conference North side AFC Fylde in the FA Trophy.

Dixon's loan spell at Boston United earlier in the season rules him out, but McLaughlin will have no such problems as he stands by for his debut.
