Wolves were left to regret crossing paths with Birmingham striker Kevin Phillips as his double earned his side a 2-1 Barclays Premier League victory.

Phillips has scored goals against them throughout his career including a hat-trick for Southampton in 2003 and four in two games for local rivals West Brom during the 2006-2007 season.

Wolves remain in 19th spot after Phillips' quickfire double means they have gone six league matches without a win but boss Mick McCarthy is in a defiant mood.

He said: "We played well but, when that happens and you lose like that, you feel a little hard done by.

"The beauty is we've another game against Spurs at home on Wednesday and, if we play like that in our remaining games, I don't think we can be written off.

"When you've that amount of spirit and played the way we did, it would be remiss of anyone to do it."
