Shropshire's premier athlete Chris Davies lines up in elite company when he helps kick off the Great North Run weekend tomorrow.
Telford AC star Davies will take his place alongside Australia's world distance running star Craig Mottram and Kenya's 5,000m World Championship silver medalist Eliud Kipchoge in the 3,000m road race in the north east.
The race is live on BBC1 at 1pm tomorrow and acts as a prelude to the popular half-marathon which takes places 24 hours later.
Davies, who was flying north this afternoon, admits he is unsure how he will perform after two injury-hit years.
"I'm nowhere near my best shape but I plan to go out fast and see how long I can compete for," said the 30-year-old.
