Versatile Neil Ashton has vowed not to throw in the towel on his Shrewsbury Town career - despite having to seek pastures new for immediate first-team football.
The 22-year-old joined Macclesfield on loan until the end of the season yesterday afternoon in a move matched by Michael Symes, while utility man Danny Hall completed a permanent switch to Gretna.
Ashton is happy at the chance to gain regular first-team action during a season where he has seen Oteley Road opportunities limited.
But the Scouser remains hopeful he can return to Shrewsbury during the summer to at least see out the final season of his current contract.
"Initially it was a surprise when the gaffer said that there were clubs interested in me on loan and he was prepared to let me go out and get some games," said Ashton.
"But I think I have only had six League starts and about 10 substitute appearances this season and that's disappointing compared to what I have had in the past.
"The vibes that are coming from the manager is that I can go out and get some games under my belt - which is what I need - and then come back in the summer and start afresh.
"It's disappointing I haven't played more, but Marc Tierney has probably been our most consistent player at left-back and the manager has gone for more experienced players in midfield so I haven't had a run of games there.
"I'm not too sure which position Macclesfield see me at, but I just need to get a run of 90 minutes under my belts."
Despite expectations of an imminent signing, Peters offered no fresh transfer update this morning - although the chances of at least one new face being in the ranks before Sunday's trip to Hereford remain high.
A striker remains very much on the manager's wish-list, with Kidderminster chief Mark Yates confirming Shrewsbury had made an initial enquiry for their 23-year-old forward James Constable, who has already bagged 11 goals in the Blue Square Premier this season.
Ashton's temporary departure is also likely to leave Peters chasing a left-sided player to provide cover for Tierney.
