Yobs deliberately drove a car into a Telford barber's shop today – just days after it opened.

Owner Laura Williams said she was "devastated" at the attacks on her shop, which saw a car driven into the building twice in the space of three hours.

Workmen were today clearing up the wreckage, while structural engineers were inspecting the property.

Laura, 21, said she was first called to Top Lads, High Street, Wellington, at 1am.

Then at 4am, she received another call to say it had happened again.

Laura said: "We were here until about 3am boarding it up and making it secure. Then at 4am, I got a call saying a car had reversed back into it.

"It is a wreck, but nothing has been taken. It's malicious. At the end of the day it's meant and not an accident.

"The windows were smashed. The second time they came, the whole lot was just on the floor.

"I am devastated. I don't know what to think about it. It was my livelihood, my job."

She said her business, which only opened on Wednesday, was now on hold, but she was determined to re-open.

Garry Addison, the building owner, estimated it would cost between £4,000 and £5,000 to repair the damage.

Police are now investigating.

Chris Ammonds, Telford Police spokesman, said: "The door frame is bent and the windows have been smashed and we believe it was done deliberately.

"It appears the car was driven with some force into the front of the shop and then driven away."

Mr Ammonds said the car involved was maroon or red and would be damaged.

Police are investigating whether the crash is linked to two burglaries at hair salons in Wellington last week. Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Telford police on 0300 333 3000.
