Liberal Democrat MP Lembit Opik is set to marry Cheeky Girl singer Gabriela Irimia, it was reported today. Montgomeryshire MP Lembit Opik has got engaged to his celebrity Cheeky Girl girlfriend, it was revealed today. The Liberal Democrat proposed to Gabriela Irimia while on a romantic break in Italy. Mr Opik is reported to have dropped to one knee in the time-honoured traditional style and produced a Tiffany white platinum diamond engagement ring beside the famous Trevi Fountain. Mr Opik is reported to have dropped to one knee in the time-honoured traditional style and produced a Tiffany white platinum diamond engagement ring beside the famous Trevi Fountain.
The couple plan to tie the knot in the next couple of years.
Miss Irimia said she is dreaming of a "lavish white wedding in a castle", prompting speculation the wedding could be held at Powis Castle in Welshpool, in Mr Opik's constituency. The MP and his former fiancee, weather forecaster Sian Lloyd, 49, also planned to tie the knot there.
Mr Opik, 43, and 25-year-old Miss Irimia met in 2006 when the pair were both contestants on television programme All Star Talent Show. Their relationship began some months later.
Talking about the engagement, Miss Irimia said: "After a romantic dinner, Lembit got a taxi to take us to the fountain. There he started talking about our future together, took a gorgeous little box from his pocket, got down on one knee and made his proposal.
Mr Opik said: "We were euphoric afterwards."
Gabriela Irimia and Lembit Opik are engaged.
At the weekend the couple appeared on the ITV programme All Star Mr & Mrs.
