Renault has reduced its warranty term from four years to three as it claims that owners see “no benefit”.

The French firm announced yesterday that it has shortened its standard new car cover from four years and 100,000 miles to three years and 60,000 miles.

This covers all cars in the Renault range, apart from the Zoe EV and Koleos SUV which get a three year, 100,000-mile warranty.

The decision was made by Renault because it saw a significant number of its owners replacing their vehicles before the four-year cover expires.

This was revealed as part of the firm’s announcement of the new EasyLife pack option.

For £99 new owners can get the service package which is provided by genuine Renault technicians using official parts.

A statement from the carmaker about the warranty change said: “Renault is committed to providing customers with the best possible value for money.

“With a significant proportion of our customers renewing their car before the start of the fourth year warranty, and therefore seeing no benefit from the extension, we have chosen to enhance the ownership package offered. “

However, those wishing to extend their new Renault warranty to the previous four-year limit can pay between £229 and £349 – depending on the vehicle – for the extra year.

Renault did confirm that its electric battery and powertrain warranty is unaffected by the changes.

Regarding the EasyLife plan, Vincent Tourette, the brand’s managing director, said: “Renault is making the customer journey as simple and as easy as possible.

“The EasyLife Pack allows our customers to save money on their servicing, manage future costs and ensure their vehicle is maintained by authorised, trained and professional staff in one of our nationwide retailers.”
