Emergency repair work in Ironbridge

Severn Trent Water is working to repair the pipe in The Wharfage, which has been shut to traffic since Sunday.

However the road is still accessible to pedestrians and shops remain open for business.

Diversions are in place along Jiggers Bank, Castlefields Way and Madeley Road.

Councillor Nicola Lowery, borough councillor for the Ironbridge Gorge, said: “This issue along The Wharfage was first identified on Thursday due a burst water pipe and Severn Trent Water have been working to identify the pipe to carry out the emergency repair work.

"Sadly, it has taken longer than expected to complete the repair work and on Sunday I contacted the council to ensure officers visited the site and that we agree a plan to keep our community informed about the duration of the road closure.

Road closure in Ironbridge

"The Wharfage is a main highway and artery through Ironbridge from the surrounding areas, is used regularly by residents and this closure will cause disruption locally, so it is important we keep our community updated with what is happening, so they can plan their journeys accordingly.

“We are currently being advised that the closure is likely to be in place until early or mid-week and I continue to work with the council and Severn Trent Water on this issue to ensure the repair work can be completed and The Wharfage reopened at the earliest opportunity to limit the impact locally”.
