Inspectors' report praises Market Drayton school
Staff and pupils at a school in Shropshire are celebrating after being praised by education inspectors in its latest report.
Market Drayton Junior School has been declared a 'good' school in its Ofsted inspection. The published report identifies many outstanding features at the school, including the behaviour and safety of pupils and the contribution made to spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
But the school has been told it needs to further raise the quality of teaching to outstanding overall and improve the effectiveness of the governing body.
The report describes how pupils achieve well and work hard, how learning and progress is good in all year groups, that teaching is good and sometimes outstanding, and the school is led and managed well.
It says: "The school is an attractive, safe and secure environment for pupils to thrive personally, socially and academically.
"Pupils achieve well and work hard to produce good quality of work in lessons. They enjoy coming to school, which is reflected in their good punctuality and above average attendance.
"Staff say they are particularly pleased the school is given credit for being 'a beacon of excellence' for its provision for disabled pupils and those with special educational needs."
Tim Hayward, headteacher, said: "I am delighted that this good and outstanding report rewards the faith placed in the school by our parents and the local community.
"It is especially satisfying to see that the work of all the staff and governors, not just the teachers, is praised and shows the strength of the team we have here."
