Police negotiators talk man down from Shrewsbury bridge

Police negotiators were called to the English Bridge in Shrewsbury in the early hours of this morning after a member of the public saw a man in trouble.

Officers were called to the scene close to Wyle Cop at 3am.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 3am by a member of the public who was concerned for the welfare of a man sitting on the wall of the English Bridge in Shrewsbury.

"Police negotiators attended the scene and talked to the man who was in his 30s. He came down at 4.20am. Police are engaging with various partners to ensure that the man receives the appropriate medical help and support."
