Shropshire farmers get milk price boost

Farmers have received a boost after dairy giant Muller Wiseman revealed it is freezing its milk prices.

Shropshire's biggest dairy has announced the price it will pay farmers for milk from February will remain at 25.90p per litre(ppl).

Campaign group Farmers For Action(FFA) has raised fears milk prices could drop to as little as 15ppl by the spring.

Back in December more than 140 protesters blockaded both entrances to the Muller Factory in Market Drayton, as part of their ongoing battle to reverse falling milk prices which they say is pushing them out of business.

Muller Wiseman had said the reduction in price reflects a sustained decline in revenues generated from sales of butter and cream, commodities which are traded in global markets.
