Former Oswestry firm named on the list of tax cheats
A former Oswestry company has been named by HM Revenue and Customs as a tax cheat owing more than £27,000 in penalties.
Churchfield Services Ltd in Llansilin, which has now ceased trading, is among the deliberate tax defaulters named on the HMRC website today.
Between October 1, 2011, and September 30, 2012, the company defaulted on seven tax payments, incurring penalties of £27,235.14 relating to tax bills totalling more than £47,500.
The company, which was run by Dan Evans, was formed in 2008 and offered office administrative services and equipment hire.
Mr Evans was unavailable for comment today.
Jennie Granger, HMRC's director general for enforcement and compliance, said: "The majority of people pay the tax that is due, but there is a small minority who try to evade their responsibilities.
"Publishing taxpayers' names is not something we do lightly but it is part of HMRC's approach to combating tax evasion and non-compliance.
"Each person named has cheated the Exchequer of more than £25,000 and that's unfair to those who pay their tax. In the last year penalties have ranged from £10,000 to over £2 million."
The list of deliberate defaulters is updated by HMRC each quarter.
