Former Shropshire businessman and high sheriff Richard Tanner dies
Shropshire businessman and former county high sheriff Richard Tanner has died at the age of 75.
Mr Tanner, the former managing director of Tanners Wines, died on New Year's Day following a period of illness.
He was well-known throughout Shropshire and served as master of South Shropshire Hunt and as president of the West Mid Show.
Tributes have poured in from all over the world, as Mr Tanner sourced wine from Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand.
He remained classic in his own taste, favouring white burgundy and claret.
Mr Tanner was described by his son James as "the perfect gentlemen", who said his father had never used a computer or mobile phone.
James said: "He knew so much, and he always had a supply of funny anecdotes."
Mr Tanner loved country life and was Master and Joint Master of South Shropshire Hunt for seven seasons.
James said: "He wasn't your typical golf man, he really enjoyed rural sports and he always took the time to become involved in things."
Mr Tanner was President of the West Mid Show in 1994, and could often be spotted at community events. He was married three times and is survived by his wife, Marion.
