A woman in her 60s was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke with a fractured shoulder, rib injury and suspected broken breast bone following the crash on the A53 near Market Drayton yesterday.

The woman, who was driving a blue Citroën Xsara Picasso, was cut free by firefighters following the collision with a silver Vauxhall Vectra.

The driver of the Vectra, a 30-year-old man, was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford with minor injuries.

Police spokesman Richard Ewels said officers would like to hear from the driver of the lorry who they believe saw the accident. He said: "The collision happened at around 11.35am on the A53 by the Newcastle Road junction.

"It is believed a lorry was present although not directly involved in the collision. Police are appealing for the driver of the lorry and other witnesses of the crash to get in contact."

The road had to be closed following the accident and was reopened at 1.30pm.

Anyone with any information can call Market Drayton police on 101.
