Michael Ost, 75, who has been club secretary of Market Drayton Tigers for the past 12 years, was invited to the palace as part of a celebration to commemorate 150 years of the Football Association. Mr Ost was one of 150 volunteers who got the chance to watch the first ever game held on palace grounds and was also recognised for his outstanding contribution to the game.

Mr Ost, who took his wife Anne with him, said: "It was an absolutely fantastic experience for us both, although it didn't start well because I left my bag on the train when we changed at Wolverhampton.

"Luckily I had transferred my entrance pass to my suit pocket.

"It really was tremendous – a day I will always remember," Mr Ost said.
