Dog walker saved after fall into river in Shrewsbury

A woman in her 50s was rescued from a river in Shrewsbury today after falling in while walking her dog.

The woman was walking along the Rea Brook, off Hazeldine Way, at about 9am when she tripped and became trapped in the muddy water.

A passer-by raised the alarm and specialist crews from Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "The lady who was in her 50s was walking her dog at the time but slipped on the embankment and fell into the Rea Brook and got stuck because of all the mud."
