Rotary Club's £3,500 aid for Market Drayton charities
More than £3,500 has been handed out to good causes and community organisations in Market Drayton following a major charity appeal.
The cash has been provided by the Rotary Club of Market Drayton and will be used to boost the work of five groups in the area. Help for Heroes, Market Drayton Royal British Legion and Hope House Children's Hospice each received £1,000. North Shropshire First Responders were granted £500.
It will help members insure one of their vehicles.
The group also received £950 from the club's junior vice-president Bryon McEwan who secured the donation through his work.
Mr McEwan is a financial advisor for the St James' Place Wealth Management Fund, which operated the St James' Place Foundation, a charitable organisation which donates money to good causes.
A further £100 was also given to North Shropshire Methodist Youth Choir as a thank you for its support at a carol service held at Festival Drayton Centre.
It comes after the club's annual Tree of Light appeal at the town's Morrison's supermarket brought in more than £6,500. The remainder of the cash has gone to Rotary's Charitable Trust Fund which aids local, national and international projects.
Club president Chris Parkin, who handed out cheques to group representatives at a presentation evening on Tuesday at Four Alls Motel in nearby Woodseaves, described the figure raised through the Tree of Light appeal as 'magnificent'.
He said: "My aim this year has been to help organisations in the community.
"The sum raised was magnificent considering the financial climate."
