Boy racers caused thousands of pounds of damage after performing handbrake turns on a cricket pitch in a town in Mid Wales.
An investigation has now been launched by Dyfed-Powys Police into the damage caused at Newtown Cricket Club.
It is not yet known exactly how much it will cost to repair the pitch, but it is expected to be well into four figures, club officials said today.
It is believed that two cars were driven onto the pitch and then used to churn the outfield up.
The end result was the wet pitch being extensively damaged, leaving the club with a race against time to repair the area before the start of the new season in April.
Club chairman Peter Davies today said: "We are appalled to see the good work done by volunteers vandalised in this way."
Anyone with information should call Dyfed-Powys Police on 101 or 0845 3302000.
