Controversial plans to create homes and demolish an ageing block of flats which has been plagued by anti-social behaviour in Market Drayton have been approved.

Meres and Mosses Housing Association has won permission to tear down the 36 flats at Combermere Court and replace them with 21 new properties.

There has been a decline in demand for the flats and the site has earned a reputation for anti-social behaviour.

At a meeting in Wem yesterday Shropshire Council's north planning committee approved the plans despite receiving more than 30 letters of objections from people in Grosvenor Road.
