Police were called to the firing ranges at about 2.45pm on Wednesday.
A spokeswoman for Kent Police added: "Police are working closely with the Army and Health and Safety Executive."
The commanding officer of the regiment, which is based in Chester, described Fusilier Griffiths as 'outstanding' and 'skilful'.
Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Webb said: "As a battalion, we are hugely saddened by the death of Fusilier Griffiths.
He said: "He will be mourned by his many friends in the battalion, and our deepest and most sincere sympathy goes to his girlfriend and his family at this very difficult time."
An Army spokesman said: "The matter is subject to a civil police investigation and it would therefore be inappropriate to comment further whilst this is ongoing."
