A little girl has been left heartbroken after thieves stole an artificial silk rose tree placed in a Ludlow garden in memory of her mother.

The memorial, which had pink silk roses and had countless pictures and letters from five-year-old Molly Simpson to her mother, was taken from the back garden of the family home in Ludlow overnight on Sunday.

Molly's mother Mo Hubbard died of a heart attack just a month ago.

Hilary Green, the child's guardian, said: "I was trying to think of something so Molly could remember her mummy.

"Molly could not say goodbye to her mummy in the way we had planned.

"She was writing notes to her mummy and they were going on the tree."

Police today launched an appeal for information about the theft and Mrs Green also appealed for help to catch the culprits.

And she is also urging them to return the tree, which meant so much to Molly.

She stressed: "Someone must have seen it somewhere.

"Anyone who saw it could see that it was not just a normal tree.

"Molly is gutted because again it is a loss.

"Now she has only got a photograph which she carries around with her," she added.
