CarnivalMarket Drayton's annual carnival will go ahead next year, organisers have revealed.

A brand new committee to organise next year's event will meet tomorrow to start planning.

This year's event, which would have taken place earlier this summer, was called off after the former organising committee resigned en masse following a spat with the town council over funding.

Lee Ridgway, chairman of the new committee, said the group would organise a brand new event for next year to reward the people of Market Drayton.

"We have a fresh opportunity to do something completely different so with it being a new committee we will just have a committee meeting to start putting a spine and structure in place, a new date, ideas for money raising and how we can get the community and businesses involved," he said.

"We will need more committee members but we have four or five people who turned up at meetings set up by the mayor, Roy Aldcroft last week, so we will make a start with that and then we will have other meetings where we will invite others to join the committee.

"We are really looking forward to it, we are going to make sure we have a carnival the whole town can enjoy."

Councillor Aldcroft said he was pleased to see a committee had been formed and glad the event would take place next year.
