Brewery adds 14th pub to empire
A Market Drayton brewing company has extended its empire by purchasing its 14th public house.
Joules Brewery, which plans to build a £1.2 million brewery in the town has bought the Duke of York in Lichfield.
The pub is the ninth the company has bought over the last year, and will sell the Joules brand ale along with The Red Lion and Lord Hill in Market Drayton, The Old Town Hall Vaults in Whitchurch, The Fox and Hounds in Cheswardine, The White Horse in Overton and The Red Lion in Bomere Heath.
Plans for the purpose-built "flagship" brewery behind the Red Lion Pub in Great Hales Street would see the original Joules pale ale produced and sold in pubs nationwide.
The move would create about 12 jobs, and owners hope to have the business up and running by the end of the year.
Steve Nuttall, owner of Joules Brewery, said: "It's not just about brewing, it's about trying to brew with authenticity and style, because the way we do things is very important to us."
