Pub giant JD Wetherspoon has won backing to build a new £1 million venue in Market Drayton, bringing 40 jobs to the town.

The company will transform the former Kwik Save site in Queen Street for its latest pub and will overhaul the site which used to be the town's cinema.

North Shropshire District Council confirmed a decision to grant outline planning permission and change of use for the former store had been granted.

Council officers are working with JD Wetherspoon bosses to work out details of the scheme including external lighting and advertising.

No objections to the plans which include a kitchen area, dance floor, toilets and bar and no objections have been raised.

Today, JD Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: "From our point of view getting planning permission is very, very good news and we now have to apply for licensing at the site."

Mr Gershon has previously said the £1 million development would create 40 new jobs.
