Shrewsbury music society gearing up to stage Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
An amateur operatic society will be staging Priscilla, Queen of the Desert at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn in October.

Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society has appointed 42-year-old Andy Poulton, of Shifnal, as director of the production.
He has been involved with various musical productions as producer and director for a quarter of a century.
Andy moved to Shropshire almost 12 months ago with a view to looking for local theatre groups and he successfully applied to be director for the society’s first-ever Priscilla, Queen of the Desert production.
He said: “I have not had any previous involvement in a production of Priscilla, but that is what makes this so exciting for me.
“I’ve been having fun researching all the different characters and the story as well as pulling this altogether ready for the launch night.
“This is a fabulous new show for amateurs which has lots of energy, some fabulous well known songs and outrageous costumes.
“I would love to capture this energy with all Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society members and feed it directly into the production which in turn should make for a great rehearsal atmosphere as well as an even better production for our audiences to enjoy.”
Matt Hall, of Bomere Heath, has also been appointed as musical director for the show.
He was previously a multi-instrumentalist with the society.
Matt said: “Priscilla is jam-packed with fantastic, fun-filled, funky disco classics including the floor-fillers Boogie Wonderland, It’s Raining Men and I Will Survive.
“I am really looking forward to working on such a well-constructed score where the music is so integral to the storyline with so many opportunities for singers to shine on some fabulous numbers.”
He has previous experience as a performer with a number of local societies over more than a decade, and as professional musical director for multiple musical theatre companies since 2012.
The show will be staged at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn from October 3 to 6.
