A parade of floats will make its way through the town on Saturday, while in the Quarry park there will be trade and charity stalls, a stage and a funfair. Local produce will also be on sale.

The theme of this year's carnival and show is Carnival Goes to the Movies. Beginning in Shrewsbury's Quarry Park at 10am, the parade will get under way at 2pm and will feature movie themed floats, walking groups, marching bands and dancers.

The parade will be led by Shrewsbury Town Crier Martin Wood and Brandon Garner, Shrewsbury Carnival's Junior Crier.

This year's carnival royalty, Isabelle Oliver as Queen, Scarlett Creber as Princess and attendants Shannon Barker and Hope Cartwright will be driven in style with cars from Hatfields Jaguar and Hatfields Land Rover.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury Ioan Jones will also lead the parade. Carnival chairman Graham Meredith said: "As always the carnival parade is the highlight of the annual Shrewsbury Carnival with its colourful floats, lively procession, dance troupes, bands and music.

"Our team of volunteers work hard to put on a great day and each year we are humbled by the amount of people that line the streets of Shrewsbury to watch the parade.

"There's also plenty of entertainment in the Quarry to enjoy too."

Throughout the day, Shrewsbury Carnival and Show will be raising money for local charities. Last year over £4,000 was donated to local charities and voluntary organisations.
