Steve Bull : Put on a show for the Wolves fans

There was a bit of a capitulation at Derby on Saturday – we’ve been blowing really hot and cold lately.

It’s not the best situation for the players or the supporters, who keep turning up week in week out.

You don’t want to finish the season on a downer. There’ll be 20,000 there on Sunday and they deserve something to cheer after what’s been a frustrating season.

That’s four defeats in six now and it’s a shame things have petered out a bit.

They went on that great run, won five games in a row to get safe, there was talk of a top half finish and now they’ve fallen flat on their faces.

I’d urge the players to put on a big performance on Sunday in front of those fans.

We all want a bit of hope for next season and how nice would it be for the team to put on a bit of a show and score a few goals.

They’ll need the fans behind them at the start of the season and with all those season tickets sold we all want to watch a winning team.

There were 3,000 at Derby on Saturday, proper diehard fans who just want to see a bit of effort and the team giving 100 per cent.

Ivan Cavaleiro got himself sent off and if it was a crucial part of the season he’d be heavily fined.

It was a silly thing to do but hopefully he’ll learn from that. I did it a couple of times when I was younger and immature, you’ve got to grow up and know what you can and can’t do.

It’s been an up and down season, what with the takeover, new managers, new players and inconsistent results.

We’ve started to see the shape of a side come together but there’s a lot of work to do this summer.

I was a bit surprised to see Paul Lambert say a left back will be a priority signing this summer – I don’t see that position as a glaring problem as Matt Doherty has done pretty well.

He’s consistent all day long, rarely gets beaten in the air and chips in with goals too.

Many will still see him as a right back and although he hasn’t quite reached the heights of last season when he won player of the year, he’s still been consistent.

But we’ll see – you could argue the need for improvements in almost any position so it’s what Paul Lambert thinks that count.

For me a midfielder and a striker are the biggest priorities.

There are decisions to be made almost immediately with a few lads out of contract when the season finishes.

Jack Price and George Saville have been at the club a while, particularly Price who came through the academy, and it’ll be interesting to see which way Lambert goes on the pair of them.

Lambert knows what he wants now, he’s got a vision for what his team will be. It promises to be a very interesting summer.
