Andy Thompson: Give Walter Zenga time to succeed at Wolves
Wolves fan-favourite Andy Thompson believes any question marks over Walter Zenga's position are far too premature.
Some reports have suggested that Zenga could be only two bad results from the sack.
Fosun supremo Jeff Shi has stated that Wolves' target is to be in and around the play-offs at Christmas.
They are currently five points behind sixth place. But Thompson believes that Zenga needs to be given time to mould his Wolves team.
"It's a bit silly to be talking about his future already," Thompson, who attends every Wolves game as a radio summariser, said. "You've got to give people time and he's got a lot of new players to bed in.
"I think it's been an indifferent start but I wouldn't think he'd be two games off the sack, looking at the whole situation. He'll get a bit more time, especially with the circumstances of what's gone on so far.
"He's not going to get unlimited time – I think they'll be having a better look around Christmas. I think that'll give you a clearer insight into what's going on."
Zenga began the role at the start of August and has overseen four wins, four defeats and three draws in 11 Championship matches. Thompson added: "I don't think the international breaks have helped either – by Christmas he'll have lost his players for three breaks which adds up to six weeks. That's definitely a factor.
"It's early days but I like what I see with Zenga. He's very passionate and the crowd can relate to him.
"When things don't go right he'll put his hand up. Obviously some signings have worked, and some haven't yet. But it's that time element where people from a different league have to settle in the Championship.
"I think he's coped well. And I've got no problem with him going back to Dubai to see his family.
"Things like that can be refreshing and a release from football. The people who employed him understand that situation. He's come across well."
