Jez Moxey: Wolves fans might thank us
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has never struck up an easy relationship with large sections of the Molineux faithful.
He's a businessman running a football club, having to keep a tight rein on finances in a era of boom-and-bust spending.
Among some of the biggest names in the game, it was never going to be easy PR to spread the message of running a tight ship.
However, as he enters the twilight of his 16-year Wolves career, Moxey believes history will look on him and former owner Steve Morgan more favourably.
In February of this year, there were loud chants for Moxey's sacking during a home defeat to Preston North End.
A few months earlier, following a game against the same club, Morgan had put Wolves up for sale after an car park argument with supporters at Deepdale.
Frankly, their stock could not have been lower with the old gold and black army.
Fast forward to the present day and with the club having been taken over by a globally-respected investment conglomerate.
And Moxey feels some supporters may retrospectively change their low opinions of himself and Morgan.
Wolves' new supremo Jeff Shi was welcomed into the club with open arms by delirious fans and took his place in the directors' boxes for the friendlies at Port Vale and Northampton Town.
The £30million sale to the Chinese investors he bequeaths to Wolves followers will, believes Moxey, one day see him remembered in a better light.
He said: "I'm extremely proud of what has been achieved. I know people criticise, and that's why running a football club is challenging.
"We have achieved great success, in terms of making sure this club has always been in a really great shape, so much so we're able to attract an owner and a buyer like this to the club.
"Sir Jack (Hayward) recruited me, Steve kept me and these guys wanted me to stay on. I'm extremely proud of the job we've done.
"Jeff's looked at a lot of football clubs and decided to take this club over every other one. That's testimony to the work that everyone has been doing here over the years.
"Perhaps the views of some fans about the leadership of this football club might just change, from hearing this news."
